The first batch of Lagos State pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj exercise has successfully arrived in Saudi Arabia, marking the commencement of the state’s airlift operations for this year’s pilgrimage.
According to the Lagos State Pilgrims Welfare Board, no fewer than 343 intending pilgrims landed at the King AbdulAzeez International Airport in Madinah aboard a Flynas Airline flight from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The pilgrims comprised 169 males and 174 females.
The board described the successful departure and arrival as another milestone in the state’s efforts to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage exercise for intending pilgrims.
Commissioner for Home Affairs and Amir-ul-Hajj, Babajide Sanwo-Olu assured pilgrims and their families that the Lagos State Government would prioritise their welfare throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.
He stated that adequate arrangements had been approved to guarantee the safety, comfort, and support of all pilgrims both in Nigeria and in the Holy Land.
Officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria also commended the peaceful and organised airlift process, praising the intending pilgrims for their discipline and cooperation.
The Lagos State Government said the airlifting exercise would continue with additional batches scheduled to depart in the coming days.
Lagos State is expected to airlift about 1,600 intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
